Raymond Parlin was born in Kulangsu, Amoy, Fukien Province, China, the son of 
Methodist Missionaries. He was facile at the piano and played and sang in the choir at 
his father's church. In 1940 he received a B.A. from Lawrence college in Appleton, 
Wisconsin having pledged Delta Sigma Tau. He died young in 1950 from polio, leaving 
his wife Esther Catherine (Ziesemer) Parlin, a 7 year old daughter and a 2 1/2 year old 
son.
